The Story
Clarke is a quiet, peaceful world, and Major Galdrian has resigned himself to a quiet, uneventful career in the planetary security force. That changes when an archaeological team digging in the planet’s radioactive wastelands unleashes a bioweapon from the distant past, creatures that both slaughter the living and despoil the dead. Both acts are horrifying in a society built around the idea of preserving and ultimately resurrecting the deceased, and the psychopomps of the theocracy give the young infantry officer the task of hunting the monsters down.
It’s a mission that will take Galdrian from the desolation of the wastelands to a little girl’s hospital room to the halls of power, and from obedience through suspicion to rebellion. Because there’s more going on than meets the eye, and he can only track down the ghouls by uncovering the truth – then he just needs to survive.
